Superyacht Crew Take in Third Annual Caribbean CrewFest at Christophe Harbour

By Katherine Verano in Events, Marina, St. Kitts, Yachting

From January 17-20, Christophe Harbour, in partnership with ACREW, welcomed 15 superyachts and 205 crew members to its superyacht marina for fun, games and insightful workshops in an enviable setting, post-holiday-charter season. This year’s theme was Health & Wellbeing, a hot topic for the travel industry in 2018 and an important topic for crew.

Before the learning and exploration commenced, the all-important opening night saw superyacht crew, officials from St. Kitts Tourism Authority, ACREW, and Christophe Harbour gather for a reception along the water's edge in the Marina Village. St. Kitts Tourism Authority enticed the crew with games to familiarise the crew with the island and local performers including the Masqueraders and Moko Jumbies entertained the group with infectious smiles. Drinks soon flowed at SALT Plage, one of Conde Nast Traveller’s Top 8 Beachside Café’s in the world, while moonlit volleyball took place in Christophe Harbour’s newly christened Crew Area.

Making full use of all the amenities at Christophe Harbour and the twin island paradise of St. Kitts and Nevis, the action-packed two days included workshops on a variety of topics including medical aid, responsible stewardship, and proper garment care. Afternoon masterclasses include an authentic Caribbean cooking workshop right from produce to platter with The Pavilion’s executive chef Barnaby Jones, and morning beachside CrossFit training sessions to keep lively crew on their toes.

Under the Caribbean sun, the St Kitts Tourism Association lead one group on a tour of the island, seeking out spots such as UNESCO World Heritage Site ‘Brimstone Hill Fortress’, while another group visited sister island, Nevis, with the Nevis Tourism Association plus golf at Four Seasons Nevis.

The now-famous CrewFest Games were accompanied by Caribbean breezes to cool even the most competitive spirits. The games saw crew completing a Christophe Harbour Triathlon with a refreshing rum punch-infused interval. Congratulations to the winners, Coral Ocean!

To ensure an energetic end to an action packed few days, Spice Mill restaurant at Cockleshell Bay transformed into a bustling dancefloor filled with crew members in Doctor and Nurse costume for the closing party. Global artist DJ Dani L. Mebius played to a willing crowd, answering encore after encore.

We would like to thank our sponsors, as well as the attending yachts and their crew who made CrewFest so memorable and enjoyable for us all. Stay tuned for more information on next year's Caribbean CrewFest, which is planned for January 2019.
