The Pogson Medical Centre in Sandy Point received several pieces of medical equipment and supplies from the Christophe Harbour Foundation.

The supplies were presented during a brief handover ceremony to the Deputy Prime Minister Shawn Richards, who officially handed them over to Minister of Health Senator Wendy Phipps.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Shawn Richard; Senator Wendy Phipps, minister with responsibility for health; Mrs. Tammy Darby representing the Christophe Harbour Foundation; Matron Sonia Daly-Finlay; Operations Manager Gail Cranston and personnel from the medical center.

Mrs. Darby had her daughter, daughter-in-law and two grandsons share in the handover ceremony to illustrate how their dedication spans generations and that the Christophe Harbour Foundation has a long-term focus in the Federation. Darby indicated shared anecdotes of her father-in-law’s lifetime achievements in pediatric wellness and the family’s diverse interests and focus on improving quality of life, health, and youth development. The Darby family was recognized with the Outstanding Philanthropist Award by The Lowcountry Association of Fundraising Professionals in 2014 for their efforts.

Mrs. Darby thanked Richards and Senator Phipps, Matron Daly-Finlay and Operation Manager Cranston, logistics specialists Source Consulting and Hobson Enterprises, and Christophe Harbour’s freight and logistics manager Steven Morris for their support that helped to facilitate the donation.

“When we met with the honorable Deputy Prime Minister a few months ago about forging a stronger partnership in the name of youth development, education and health, we had a great conversation about a variety of ways we can work together now and far into the future to positively impact the daily lives of citizens here in this great Federation,” said Darby.

It was during that meeting that Pogson was identified as a facility that had some very specific needs. Health and wellness are paramount in the Darby family and Mrs. Darby used connections within the medical community to source the items and get the items delivered to Pogson. Those items include 3 nebulizers, 4 cardiac monitors, 1 portable suction, and a delivery bed as well as associated medical supplies.

Beyond the efforts at Pogson, Darby indicated they were working closely with Sandy Point Primary on several initiatives, including a professional development workshop for the teachers in May. The workshop will focus on technology and how to integrate it into the classroom. If successful, the workshop could be implemented Federation-wide.

Deputy Prime Minister Richards said, “I take this opportunity to extend my gratitude not only on behalf of the Sandy Point community but all of the communities served by the Pogson Medical Centre. I have often said that the Government has limited resources, and we rely on partnerships to improve upon what we have.”

Richards said he looked forward to a continued working partnership with the Christophe Harbour Foundation.
